Network Bytes: Level 3, Birch, UPN, CityFibre

October 20th, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Here’s a quick roundup of some network news on three continents to start off Tuesday:

Level 3 revealed a successful deal down in Argentina yesterday. The biotech company Biosidus has selected their Enhanced Video Collaboration solution to help connect its representatives around the world. Biosidus recently relocated its offices from the Almagro district of Buenos Aires to the Munro district, which prompted an overhaul and upgrade of their networks.

Birch Communications has won an expanded relationship with Mattress Firm. They will be providing consolidated communications services to the company’s 2,300 retail locations around the country, which sell mattresses if you hadn’t guessed. But this deal shows that Birch is making some progress in moving up the food chain to larger, multi-site enterprises.

In the Midwest, Unite Private Networks continued its invasion of Iowa via a partnership with Enseva. Enseva operates Iowa data centers outside of both Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, and it is the former that is getting a new fiber connection in this case. UPN is in the midst of a network buildout in Iowa, taking aim at all the major markets, so there will be more where this one came from.

And over in the UK, CityFibre has pounced on the suspension of the government’s Supper Connected Cities connection voucher scheme. They’re offering to waive connection fees for the company’s networks in Aberdeen, Coventry, Edinburgh, Huddersfield, Peterborough, and York through November 5. Those are the company’s main expansion markets of course, and the suspension of the voucher program apparently came as a bit of a surprise to some.
