Here are a few quick news items from the vendor side of the tracks:
Infinera says it has sold some more gear to the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation. MBC has deployed the company’s PXM packet switching module on the DTN-X platform the company already has in place, which allows them to interconnect 100GbE router ports at various universities and hook up to the Internet2 up in Ashburn.
Calix has added another box to its portfolio, introducing the E3-8G. The environmentally hardened, node-based OLT targets cable operators looking to migrate to fiber and GPON architectures. It ‘mimics’ traditional cable network equipment, making the transition less of a shock while enabling a symmetrical gigabit and preparing for more.
And Canadian-based BTI Systems has unveiled a packet-optical platform aimed at bringing SDN and virtualization to service delivery at the network edge. At the Layer123 SDN & OpenFlow World Congress this week they are showcasing their 7800 Series gear running a software-defined virtual network gateway from Active Broadband Networks and being managed by an OpenDaylight SDN controller.
