Yesterday saw some more fiber change hands over in Europe. The Dutch network operator Eurofiber has a new owner, as Antin Infrastructure Providers has bought the company from Doughty Hanson and Reggeborgh for €875 million.
In terms of operations, not much will change of course since this is private equity buying from private equity. The new owners, however, seem likely to be more aggressive when it comes to building and buying fiber. The purchase of Eurofiber could be the first step in a wider rollup strategy by Antin IP, but time will tell. Antin owns some European tower assets as well, but this seems to be their first big fiber play.
Eurofiber operates 18,000km of fiber hooking up some 9,500 locations, including 550 ‘industrial estates’. The footprint covers much of the Netherlands already, although there is always further depth to be had of course. There aren’t a lot of independent assets with the same sort of regional and metro depth that I know of in adjacent countries, but there are perhaps a few that might fit. Any ideas?
