Lots of news out there this week to get to, here’s a set of internet exchange and transit backbone quick-takes that are worth a look:
DE-CIX continued its expansion into new markets this week with a new internet exchange along the historical border of Europe and the Middle East. The new IX in Istanbul complements two others on the shores of the Mediterranean they announced recently in Palermo, Italy and Marseille, France. DE-CIX has been adding new interconnection markets at a prodigious rate.
Telehouse says its internet exchanges have seen significant growth so far this year. The NYIIX has seen its membership grow by 50% and has now been upgraded to a new platform as well. Meanwhile, LAIIX is also adding new capacity to meet demand. Meanwhile, Telehouse also says AT&T Business Services has moved into both its Chelsea and Teleport facilities in New York City. We haven’t heard as much from KDDI and its subsidiaries lately.
Hurricane Electric has added another three PoPs to its transit backbone. They’ve moved into one CoreSite data center in each of New York, Chicago, and northern Virginia. The additional locations add to HE’s existing depth in each of those markets as part of an ongoing global expansion of their footprint.
And Teliasonera Internation Carrier offered an update on its expansion in the western Hemisphere. TSIC now reaches into 62 North American data centers and is claiming the top backbone position in South America according to Dyn (who acquired Renesys a while back). Through dark fiber investments and equipment upgrades, TSIC has put together a very substantial infrastructure presence in the Americas ahead of the Olympics in Rio next year.
