Several readers kindly noted over the holidays that it had been over a year since I’d updated my metro fiber and on-net building statistics page. So I’ve been collecting data over the last few weeks, and it’s now time put out the new stats. They’re on their usual page of course, but here’s a copy sorted by on-net building count:
I’ve taken the liberty of including names for which I’m still looking for data in the table, notably the big ILECs for whom I’ll probably never get it but one can dream. Consolidation has seen this list evolve dramatically, of course. But the biggest change this year is the data now available for some cable MSOs. On top of the list now is TW Cable, With both Cox and Charter in there as well. Comcast doesn’t supply such data yet, but we’ll work on them.
Other particularly notable milestones reached are Level 3’s 30,000 on-net buildings following the tw telecom deal, Zayo’s combined organic and inorganic passing of the 16,000 mark, and Fibertech’s entirely organic passing of the 10,000. There are a number of new names on the list as well, and I hope to add more, particularly overseas where the data is hopefully becoming a bit easier to find.
