Here’s a quick roundup of some industry news over the past 24 hours or so that’s worth a quick look:
An unnamed US carrier is expanding its network in Hong Kong. Hutchison Global Communications says that it has provisioned its first 100G metro optical service to a major US carrier. HGC’s 100G network in Hong Kong was built with Transmode’s gear over the past year and a half or so and covers Kowloon and the New Territories as well as Hong Kong Island. Not many US-based carriers need 100G within the Hong Kong metro area, I wonder which this one is.
WOW! Business continued to expand its options when it comes to taking on the business bandwidth market. They signed a channel sales agreement with Telegration yesterday, adding a new pathway to customers in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. WOW! Business now has detailed regional and metro network maps on its website that I haven’t run into before, I’ll have to add those to my network maps sections.
BroadSoft has added another UC service provider to its list of clients. INVOIP will be deploying their BroadCloud managed services to power their new hosted PBX replacement service. That’s BroadSoft’s fully managed hosted service, which they’ve been using to move beyond the more basic software licensing path they started on. For its part, Michigan-based INVOIP is looking to join the ongoing business cloud communications wave.
Also in VoIP, Vonage says it was granted 7 new patents in December, giving them 31 new patents for 2014 alone. The patents cover a wide range of technology, giving Vonage more ammunition for the defense of its revenue base. Like the rest of the cloud communications world, Vonage has been shifting more and more resources into mobile and enterprise opportunities.
And Champion ONE has unveiled some new gear. Their tunable DWDM SFP+ pluggable transceivers, uTune Director support, and SFP+ Next Day Dense Wave (NDDW) DWDM transceivers are now generally available. More bandwidth delivered faster certainly won’t hurt.
