Wednesday Bytes: Integra, Digital Realty, 21Vianet, Equinix

The end of August is generally a time where news is at low ebb in this sector, but here’s a quick look at a bunch of other items that have come out in the first half of this week:

Integra announced the delivery of a network solution to DocuSign earlier this week. They’ve designed a newly integrated solution combining Ethernet, IP/MPLS VPN, and voice for the digital transaction management company, hooking up offices in Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago as well as the necessary cloud infrastructure. DocuSign says they’ve seen a 50% reduction in telephony costs plus higher quality and reliability.

Digital Realty Trust and CenturyLink Technology Solutions (formerly Savvis) have jointly picked up Tier III certification for facility construction over in Hong Kong. The two have a joint venture working on a data center over in Tseung Kwan O, and it is the first facility in Hong Kong to gain such a certification for the Uptime Institute. The location opened its doors last November.

Nearby on the Chinese mainland, 21Vianet made an inorganic move into the network side of infrastructure. They have agreed to purchase the VPN business unit of DYXnet Group, Dermot Group and its subsidiaries. The deal gives 21Vianet the ability to provide the pipes that lead into its data center and cloud services, making them an integrated provider. It also may put them in competition with the Chinese telecom sector.

And Equinix has yet another new convert for its Cloud Exchange. CloudSigma is now offering access to its public cloud IaaS solutions via the exchange, with the initial point of connectivity being at Equinix’s SV5 data center out in Silicon Valley. Equinix’s cloud exchange is now in 17 markets around the world, with two more in the works yet.
