Here’s another quick rundown of news from the metro side of things in the past few days:
This morning, Lumos continued its expansion on its southeastern flank by bringing Peak 10’s data center in Richmond on-net. The buildout to and throughout the Richmond, Virginia market was one of Lumos’s bigger projects over the past couple of years, and is now bearing fruit on the revenue front. Lumos says it already has two contracts for connectivity into Peak 10’s facility.
Yesterday, Windstream took its unified communications offering nationwide. The platform is built off of technology from Avaya, Cisco, Mitel and ShoreTel, and is targeted at enterprise and medium-sized businesses nationally. Windstream’s cloud-powered enterprise services are a big piece of their strategy going forward, and UC is perhaps the technology with the clearest path in front of it. Also, just before the long weekend, Windstream picked up a $3M federal deal. They’ll be expanding their fiber footprint into Fort Campbell in Kentucky and into Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
We also had a little bit of consolidation up in Michigan yesterday. 123.Net announced the acquisition of the customer base of the Michigan Internet Communications Association, a.k.a. MICA.net. The deal boosts 123.Net’s regional scale, although information about MICA.net seems rather hard to come by.
This morning ADVA won an expansion of its relationship with another regional fiber customer for its optical gear. Bluebird Network has deployed their 100G technology to help meet demand for traffic growth in and between the major metro areas of Missouri. The upgrade is focused, as one might expect, on the path between Kansas City and St. Louis. Bluebird and ADVA have been working together for some 7 years.
And before the break, Allied Fiber built into a key facility on the north end of its recent intercity build down on the Florida coast. Cologix has welcomed the additional connectivity to its meet-me-room at 421 West Church in Jacksonville. Cologix moved into the Jacksonville market last autumn with the purchase of JMMR1.
