CityFibre has a new item in its list of Gigabit Cities over in the UK this week. They have now completed the acquisition of Coventry’s existing metro fiber network, upon which they will expand to offer connectivity to the city’s business community.
Coventry’s municipal network was built six years ago, covers route miles of some 140km, and currently hooks up 300 buildings. That’s a pretty good starting point for CityFibre, which is busy investing in similar metro buildouts in places like York and Peterborough. The rest of the UK outside of London and its suburbs has finally been getting some infrastructure attention in recent years, though still slower than many would have liked.
CityFibre is another potential player in any M&A activity in the UK. I wonder if they showed up at the auction for Geo.
