Equinox Unveils Southeastern Network Expansion Plans

July 31st, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

There’s a new fiber builder taking shape on the eastern seaboard. Equinox Global Telecommunications this morning unveiled network expansion plans that will boost connectivity to and within Charlotte, North Carolina.

TRImage_46 Jul. 31 07.20Equinox has several routes in mind. There’s a diverse metro ring throughout Charlotte itself, regional routes connecting to Raleigh and to Asheville by way of Kings Mountain (left), and longhaul routes that will hook up to Memphis, Nashville, and Johnson City in Tennessee plus one reaching all the way to Cincinnati, Ohio.  There are other routes mentioned on the company’s website that head for Georgia and Florida as well.

As for timing, they’ve been working on all this in stealth for about a year and have several of the routes already engineered and ready for permitting and construction. Some are targeted for the end of this year, and some for mid-2015.

There does seem to be lots going on down in North Carolina these days when it comes to fiber.  For example, DukeNet is rumored to be in the process of finding a buyer, and RST Global Communications is also working on big things in and around Charlotte.
