Int’l Roundup: euNetworks, VTLWaveNet, Infinera, GlobeNet, Teliasonera

With ITW going on, it’s been a busy week for international telecommunications on the PR front. Here’s a quick roundup of some articles of interest from overseas:

euNetworks followed up its launch of Basildon to Frankfurt low latency connectivity with some additional fiber. They’ve added a new diverse route from central London to the key financial hub, increasing the options available to those picky folks in the financial vertical. euNetworks raised a small war chest earlier this week with an eye toward doing some consolidating if the opportunity arises.

VTLWaveNet did something other than become part of the Digiweb group this week. They also announced the completion of a 100G network upgrade with the help of embattled vendor Huawei. They now have 10G, 40G, and 100G services fully operational between London and Paris. Huawei’s SD FEC and electronic dispersion compensation technologies have given VTLWaveNet a nice combination of reduced latency and greater reliability on the route.

Infinera won itself two new customers over in Europe. BISC, the international carrier arm of Belgacom, will be using their DTN-X and its 500Gbps super channels for their pan-European network needs. And up in Scandinavia, Agder Breidband has selected both the older DTN and ATN platforms for expansion.

GlobeNet opened its ultra-low latency US-Brazil IP route this week with a connection into Equinix’s MI3 facility in Boca Raton. As 75% of traffic between the US and Latin America passes through Miami, it remains the primary hub for US operators looking south despite the fact that traders can find lower latency between NYC and Sao Paolo via the other side of GlobeNet’s ring – which just got the NJ/Bermuda hop upgraded a few weeks back.

Along with its other news this week, Teliasonera International Carrier publicly launched its IPX platform. Taking advantage of its top tier global IP backbone and 100G infrastructure in both North America and Europe, they are looking to facilitate the exchange of mobile data traffic worldwide. LTE signaling services will be added later this year, with further enhancements to follow.
