Euro Roundup: BT, Interoute, NTT, Sea Fibre Networks, AlcaLu

Here’s a quick rundown of news from across the Atlantic this Monday morning:

Interoute turned its attention to its data center infrastructure this morning, announcing a Belgian buildout. They’ll be investing multi-millions of Euros into their Ghent data center in Flanders. When complete, the expansion will house some 1,500 square meters of highly secure space, and of course connectivity to their pan-European fiber network.

British Telecom (NYSE:BT, news, filings) is taking its cloud computing capabilities global. They’ve launched BT Bloud Compute across 4 continents, offering pay-as-you-go solutions. They’ve got servers located in Brazil, Colombia, US, UK, Spain, Benelux, France, Italy, Singapore and Hong Kong, with Germany, China, India, Argentina and Mexico on deck. Haven’t heard as much from BT lately in terms of the cloud, glad to see they’ve decided to go for it.

NTT has added yet another tidbit to its European footprint, this time rather further to the east in Moscow. They’ll be offering data center services out of IXcellerate’s Moscow One facility. It’s part of an overall expansion in the region, preparing a suite of network, cloud, and hosting services for the rising Russian market.

Sea Fiber Networks continues to expand the terrestrial network it has been assembling to go with that new Irish sea cable they built. They’ve extended their C-Fibre portfolio all the way across the English Channel and down into Paris. They’ve now got a node in Equinix’s Paris internet exchange.

And the embattled Franco-American vendor Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU, news, filings) is downsizing another division, according to LightReading.  After a review of its managed services business, been busy these past few quarters reducing headcount by as much as 3,200 and canceling or renegotiating a number of contracts.  They’re still in the managed services business, but looking for the higher margin stuff.
