Two data center buildouts completed, one getting started, and a contract:
Down in Texas, Cologix has successfully launched its second data center in the Dallas INFOMART at 1950 North Stemmons Freeway. The new facility adds 12K square feet, 300+ cabinets, and 3.2MW of power to their inventory. That gives them 12 colo and interconnection facilities in the US and Canada. Feels like it might be time for another inorganic move by Cologix elsewhere in the country as well.
Not far to the south, OnRamp unveiled plans for a 42,000 square foot data center in Austin — their second in the Texas capital. They’ve been working on the design since last Fall, and hope to open the new facility in Q4 of this year. OnRamp just finished up a project in North Carolina two weeks ago, but Austin is their home turf.
In Ohio, DataCenter.BZ says it will be building a second data center complex in central Ohio. Their current flagship facility is nearing 70% occupancy and they expect to need the new space by early 2014 to continue to meet demand. COL-2 will add 34,000 square feet to their footprint, and will be hooked up to their existing metro fiber footprint. But the exact location is still being worked out, with three municipalities in north-centeral Ohio under consideration.
And Level 3’s data center and hosting business down in South America picked up a new customer. German-based Rocket Internet is expanding its presence in Brazil, moving into Level 3’s Cotia, Sao Paolo data center. Rocket develops and maintains websites for the retail marketplace. The managed services and hosting business that Level 3 picked up from Global Crossing in Latin America has seemed to fit pretty well, perhaps they can leverage the same sort of thing to help their US and European growth plans.
