Zayo Extends Eastern Oregon Footprint

December 6th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Zayo Group (news, filings) may be busy integrating the six acquisitions it has made this year, but they seem to have the mojo to take on new projects in every corner of their footprint. Today they announced a fiber expansion in eastern Oregon.

They’ll be laying 35 miles of 96-count fiber as part of a new Fiber-to-the-Tower project. It will bring fiber into Hermiston in Umatilla County along the border with Washington and to the south of their existing presence in Kennewick.

Most of Zayo’s other fiber in eastern Oregon derives from 360Networks of course. But it was mostly of the longhaul variety rather than metro, and they obviously weren’t using it for Fiber to the Tower before it sold to Zayo one year ago last week.  But one of Zayo’s hallmarks has been to quickly take integrated assets and use them to take on a wider set of opportunities than the prior owners could or would.
