Here’s a quick rundown on some recent news from colo and the cloud: another peering partner for CoreSite, an anchor customer for ViaWest, a cloud offering from TW Cable, and a new project by some heavy hitters in Manhattan:
CoreSite (NYSE:COR, news, filings) hooked up to another peering exchange, signing a deal with Germany’s DE-CIX. They will now be providing direct access to the Frankfurt-based internet exchange and the 480 ISPs on it. This follows other similar arrangements recently with NYIIX and AMS-IX, and is aimed at giving CoreSite a bigger connectivity ecosystem with which to compete against the likes of the Equinix marketplace.
ViaWest added an anchor tenant at its new Las Vegas facility. The healthcare solutions provider HMS has selected its Lond Mountain facility as a secondary disaster recovery site. The primary is at ViaWest’s Dallas facility of course. The Las Vegas location will be ready in early 2013, with 70,000 square feet of raised floor space when complete.
Time Warner Cable’s Business Class unit moved into the cloud with a new Software-as-a-Service offering aimed at the SMB. This one’s about apps… MicroSoft apps, i.e. Exchange, Sharepoint, and Outlook. TW bought NaviSite almost two years ago now, I’d assume those assets are helping power this particular cloud expansion.
And there’s a new hub planned for New York it seems. Jamestown Properties, Amerimar Enterprises, and veteran Hunter Newby are working on turning 325 Hudson Street into a carrier neutral facility. Jamestown previously owned 111 8th before Google bought it two years ago, and of course Newby helped put Telx together from scratch, so it’s safe to say that these guys mean business.
