With ITW now in full swing, it’s fitting that there’s a whole series of interesting news on the international front to take a quick look through:
Central America is getting its first 100G upgrade. Columbus Networks has tapped Xtera’s NuWave Optima platform for an upgrade its network in Panama, which now hooks up to its Carribean network via a very large on-ramp. Columbus has been busy lately, having just upgraded its ARCOS-1 and CFX-1 systems in November. Xtera also featured in the CFX-1 upgrade, so the two have a long relationship.
The Trading Services division of Orange Business Services added another international financial client. They announced yesterday a deal with Fidessa Group to bring their TCSnet into Fidessa’s European data centers. Fidessa serves 2,900 buy-side and 700 sell-side brokers with trading solutions and other managed services.
For Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) this morning, it was European content that was the order of the day. Voxility has selected them to provide high-speed IP connectivity to its three data centers, and not a minor amount of it – more than 250Gbps in all. Voxility is a name I have only come across in the context of VoIP termination in Central Europe and especially Romania, but apparently they have some serious cloud-based plans in the works.
Following up on its big Facebook win, TeliaSonera International Carrier added a renewal of its academic networking partnership in the US with The Quilt. Teliasonera will be supplying the coalition’s members with IP transit services, which is the division’s most visible offering in the US for the Scandanavian-based carrier.
And finally, Telecom Italia’s TI Sparkle unit has teamed with KPN’s iBasis unit to create a multiservice IPX peering connection. The two operators will be exchanging voice, signaling, and GRX traffic in support of future LTE Roaming capabilities amongst other things.
