Today CenturyLink (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) announced a big federal bandwidth project, winning a multi-year task order from DISA/DITCO worth up to $250M over the life of the contract. They will be providing private line services ranging all the way from DS-0 through OC-768 between military installations across the country.
CenturyLink added a substantial Federal presence when it purchased Qwest back in April, including one of those valuable Networx Universal slots. The unification of the former Qwest longhaul network, the Savvis longhaul network, and the former CenturyTel regional and metro assets have given the company a rather more formidable national presence with which to bid for such projects than Qwest could have originally put forth.
Earlier this year, DoD handed Qwest a $100M IP services contract as well. Like with that deal, CenturyLink in this case will provide the private line services as it migrates to Networx, serving all DoD agencies as well as the Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy.
