Lots of news items out yesterday, I guess the Labor day folks are all back in the building. A quick look at a few:
Pan-European operator Colt Group (LON:COLT, news) came away with an access agreement with BT Wholesale’s media market exchange at the BT Tower in London. That’s the largest media switch in Europe, responsible for 95% of all UK video traffic. Colt will henceforth be able to provide broadcasters with access to and from 350 sports and news locations around the country. That gives them a greater presence in the content world. Colt has been churning off voice while growing its data business for years now, but is sitting on metro access to the tune of 18,000 lit buildings across the continent.
Equinix won another financial contract over in Frankfurt. Real time event data provider Selerity is colocating in their FR2 datacenter, leveraging its low latency connectivity. Selerity is already in Equinix’s Chicago and Secaucus facilities, but will now be able to locally produce and distribute European-focused event data sets, cutting off 40-60ms. The financial vertical’s love affair with low latency solutions is obviously not going away any time soon, offering the sector levels of service differentiation it lacked for so many years following the bubble.
Telehouse America continued its parade of new carrier connectivity at its NYC Chelsea data center at 85 10th Ave. Optical Communications Group (OCG), which operates a metro network throughout the city and out onto Long Island, has expanded its fiber network into the facility. OCG also has fiber into Telehouse’s datacenter down on Staten Island, so the two know each other quite well. The Chelsea facility just came online for Telehouse earlier this year.
And also in Manhattan, interconnection specialist Telx formally added last mile wholesaler Expereo to its Ethernet Exchange at 111 8th Ave. Telx’s Ethernet Exchange was the last of the major entries into the space to get moving, but has managed to gain traction by leveraging Telx’s existing interconnection relationships. But this particular news item isn’t too surprising, Expereo was on board with Telx’s Ethernet Exchange last year as a charter customer – though perhaps not at this location.
