Even as Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO, news, filings) is busy with the hard part of its slimming down program, they are still out there buying companies. Earlier this summer, they announced a downsizing of 6,500 employees as part of a $1B savings program aimed at turning the company around after its recent bouts with M&A indigestion.
Nevertheless, today Cisco scarfed down Versly, a privately held company with a Microsoft Office plugin that they will be using to better integrate other Cisco products, including Quad, jabber, and Webex. In other words, they’re acquiring a bit of glue that they hope will hold their collaboration solutions together, with collaboration being one of their ‘five company priorities’. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Last weekend, Cisco announced the acquisition the AXIOSS fulfillment software assets from Comptel. I wonder who’s on tap for Labor Day weekend. Gotta feed the need. Oh wait, the diet, I forgot. These have been more targeted at particular technologies and talent than the binge they were on earlier – sorta like eating raw veggies instead of fast food.
