Thursday Bytes: C3ntro, Arelion, SG.GS, Telecom Fiji, Ciena

Four interesting expansion projects, two by international players in the American southwest, and two from international markets:

There will soon be a new metro fiber alternative in Phoenix, Arizona, and it’s coming from across the southern border. C3ntro Telecom says it began construction of AI-powered fiber network infrastructure in the Phoenix metro area in January, marking its first project in the US. C3ntro operates 3,000km of metro infrastructure in Mexico City, Querétaro, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla and Cancun.

Arelion has further expanded its North American network with an investment in Texas. They have added three new fully diverse mesh routes in the state, forming a new ring connecting the DASH markets. The expansion extends Arelion’s reach into new facilities and provide diversity to their connectivity to the growing infrastructure markets across the border in Mexico.

SG.GS says it is expanding into eastern Europe for the first time. The APAC-based global network carrier is launching a PoP in the Polish capital of Warsaw. The new node will enable direct connectivity over SG.GS’s international backbone between destinations in eastern Europe and major markets of the Far East.

Telecom Fiji says it has completed a fiber link between Savusavu and Labasa. This is not a subsea thing, but rather a terrestrial fiber project crossing Vanua Levu, which is the 2nd largest island in Fiji. They have have deployed Ciena’s 5184 coherent routing to establish a high capacity data corridor that will reduce dependence on microwave links.
