Some regional expansion, a new PoP, some FTTH, and some quantum network security:

Zayo says it is investing $90M into network infrastructure in Tennessee. They plan to update their network backbone throughout the state, preparing for the expansion of AI workloads in the region. Zayo Education, which evolved from their acquisition of Education Networks of America is headquartered in Nashville, and Zayo’s footprint currently connects 94% of the state’s school districts.

Hurricane Electric is expanding its depth in the upper Midwest. They have deployed a second PoP in the Minneapolis metro area, or more specifically in Ridgeview Minnetonka, about 10 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. It’s HE’s fourth PoP in Minnesota overall.

Consolidated’s Fidium has begun a significant expansion in the state of Maine. The FTTH division says it will bring another 100K homes and businesses within reach of the company’s reach by the end of this year, expanding its total reach to 400K total endpoints and 73% of the state’s population. New on their list are the towns of Bath, Brownville, Bucksport, Calais, Easton, Eddington, Gorham, Grand Isle, Lubec, Monson, Old Town, Orono, Richmond, Van Buren, Wells, Woodland, and Yarmouth.

And Colt has revealed a new achievement within the quantum network security space. Working with Adtran, Ciena, IDQ, Nokia, and Toshiba, they have trialed quantum-secured encryption across their optical wave network. Methods trialed included QDK, PSK with symmetric key distribution, and PQC technology. They used 1361km of fiber between London and Frankfurt as well as an 88km span between London and Slough. Colt hopes to commercialize the technology with an eye on the financial vertical.
