Thursday Bytes: Zayo, Infinera, Ciena, H5, DE-CIX, Aligned

Three vendor wins, an IX, and a new data center project:

Zayo and Infinera have been busy testing the latest DWDM gear. They have trialed Infinera’s ICE7 technology on Zayo’s fiber between Sacramento and Salt Lake City, achieving a 1Tbps, single 150GHz wave over 1,391km. That will give Zayo as much as 32Tbps of C-Band capacity, with another 32Tbps from L-Band later on. Nokia’s pending purchase of Infinera is expected to close at the end of next week.

Ciena announced the win of two customer deals this week. Uniti Fiber says it will be using Ciena’s WL5n PKT-MAX coherent transceivers. Along with their existing Cisco and UfiSpace routers, Uniti will be able to transition to a converged 400G IP/optical infrastructure. Meanwhile Cirion is upgrading its infrastructure with Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 as it preps for demand from cloud and AI. Before 2022, Cirion was previously Lumen’s Latin American infrastructure and touches 20+ countries across the region.

H5 Data Centers and DE-CIX are teaming up in San Antonio TX. The strategic partnership will see DE-CIX power the SAT-IX internet exchange at H5 San Antonio, complementing DE-CIX’s existing IX capabilities 275 miles away in Dallas. H5 San Antonio features 85,000 square feet of space with access to 35+ carriers.

And also in the Lone Star State, Aligned Data Centers has announced another major data center project. They will be building DFW-03 on 27-acres in Mansfield, which sits about 15 miles south of the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The project will include an on-site substation and Aligned’s modular infrastructure, targeting AI-driven demand for high density compute.
