Four bits of news from the last mile of the fiber business around the US:
Windstream has launched a new network offering targeting small businesses across its footprint. The company’s Kinetic Business division has launched Business Ready Internet, which combines fiber, wifi, security, and backup capabilities to target the needs of the SMB. The offering is built upon Calix’s SmartBiz technology.
Dobson Fiber has some upgrade plans for its network footprint. The Oklahoma-based regional network provider will be leveraging Ciena’s 6500 RLS to add capacity and improve efficiency in response to growing demand. Dobson has 6,500 route miles of network in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas.
Ziply Fiber has expanded its FTTH buildout into two new markets in the Pacific Northwest. They have officially launched service in Langlois on the southwest coast of Oregon, where they have now built past 75 homes and businesses thus far. And in Genessee in western Idaho their fiber connectivity is now available to 400 locations.
And in the UK, CityFibre says it has achieved the company’s first ever profitable year. In 2024 the company earned revenues of £134M and EBITDA of £5M and added 181K new customers to their network. CityFibre’s reach now passes 4.3M premises, out of a goal of 8M. They hope to add another 1M or so this year.
