Interesting news items from Europe, southeast Asia, and the Middle East from the past several days:
Verne Global will soon be expanding its presence in the Nordic region, specifically in the Finnish capital of Helsinki. They have acquired the land at their existing campus there from Onvest, planning to develop ths site further. The plans call for two more buildings which will target AI and other high density opportunities. Verne’s campus has access to 70MW of renewable power, renewable diesel for its backup generators, and sends its waste heat to the local district heating network.
Nokia had two interesting wins in southeast Asia this week. In Singapore, Starhub has completed an upgrade using Nokia’s gear to upgrade its last mile capabilities. Several hundred thousand homes now have access to 10Gbps XGS-PON. And in Vietnam, Nokia will be helping upgrade the communication network of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation. The project will leverage Nokia’s multi-service network solution, IP/MPLS networking, and quantum-safe network security technology.
DE-CIX continues to be busy in the Middle East. With Ooredoo they have announced a new internet exchange in Qatar. Doha IX will be the first IX in Qatar, offering better access to global and regional networks. They have also partnered with e& to build an internet corridor between the UAE and India. The idea is to leverage DE-CIX’s internet exchanges on either side with e&’s international connectivity in the region.
And iBasis has renewed a partnership with Mobily in Saudi Arabia, extending their existing multi-service IPX agreement for roaming services. The two have been working together since 2014. The deal improves Mobily’s network scalability during periods of peak demand.
