Int’l Bytes: Mistral AI, Sparkle, NEC, Nokia

Four bits of infrastructure and related news from three continents:

Mistral AI says it’s going to build several billion euros worth of data center infrastructure in France. The European alternative to OpenAI said recently that it is investing in a data center campus in Essonne, the region just to the south of Paris. The site is expected to become operational in the next few months, and will use nuclear power at least in part to meet European sustainability goals.

Sparkle has picked up some more business with the pan-European R&E network GÉANT by being named as OCRE 2024 Framework provider. The international operator will be able to offer cloud solutions and professional services to the research and education community across all 39 European countries involved. The deal is effective through 2030, and is something they’ve been providing in one form or another for a while now.

IN Japan, NEC is taking aim at the nitty gritty of next generation infrastructure construction work. They have developed a new solution for building mobile infrastructure, accommodating the spread of 5G network virtualization technologies. The solution streamlines the various business processes their customers must put in place, enables more automation, and leverages operational data to speed up the feedback cycle.

Puntonet Ecuador will be upgrading its last mile network to the latest XGS-PON solution. They have tapped Nokia to evolve their infrastructure in Ecuador to 10G speeds to both residential and business customers. They have also trialed 25G PON for future expansion.
