Tuesday Bytes: SUBCO, FiberSense, STACK, ValorC3, Spencer Building

January 21st, 2025 by · Leave a Comment

One subsea item and three bits of data center news:

SUBCO and FiberSense have extended their strategic partnership to the upcoming SMAP cable system. SMAP will connect the Australian nodes of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. FiberSense’s technology will turn that fiber into a sensor network that can look at tampering, ship anchor dragging, fishing activities, cable unearthing and strumming or underwater seismic activity.

STACK Infrastructure recently announced a major new project in northern Virginia. The vision for the Stafford Technology Campus is for 500 acres housing 19 data centers and 6 300MW substations. Stafford County sits just south of the DC metro area on the north side of Fredericksburg. STACK raised $900M in green funding just last week and is in the process of building out in Manassas as well.

Tonaquint will now be known as ValorC3 Data Centers. The company has re-branded itself around Colocation, Cloud, and Connectivity, or C3. ValorC3’s current footprint includes facilities in St. George, Utah; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Boise, Idaho. They will be looking to expand that presence under the new name.

And out in Vancouver, Spencer Building Carrier Hotel is expanding its footprint. They are adding two more data halls within the Spencer Building, adding 5MW of power and 23,000 square feet of contiguous space, which more than doubles their existing presence. The first half is available now for concurrent buildout, and the rest will be a 2027 thing.
