Several interesting items of regional interest from this week to catch up with:
Powerhouse Data Centers and Provident Data Centers have formed a new joint venture targeting the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. They will be working on a new hyperscale data center campus on 768 acres of land. Details of the multi-phased project are not yet available beyond the intention to build powered shells targeting the need for scalable, high-density, well connected space.
365 Data Centers and Secaucus-based InterServer are teaming up in New Jersey. They have signed a strategic partnership which will bring InterServer’s web hosting and managed services into 365 Data Centers’s facilities in Carlstadt and Bridgewater. Northern NJ sits in the infrastructure shadow of NYC from a perception standpoint, but it’s where the expansion room is.
Ciena’s gear will be getting a workout in the mountain west. The regional carrier Vision Net will be using their optical platform, routing and switching solutions, and related software and services to upgrade its backbone to 800Gbps. The upgrade will enable better connectivity between Vision Net’s data centers in Billings, followed by an expansion into Bozeman in the spring of 2025.
Meanwhile, Brightspeed says it ended 2024 with 1.82M fiber-enable locations across its 20-state footprint, 70K more than it’s goal. They built out some 17,600 miles of fiber cable during the year, passing 103,000 miles. Meanwhile, they have about $238M in local, state, and federal grants to work with, targeting another 121K locations across 14 states.
