Nokia has revealed three deals in the IX space from around the world. The deals will put more of the company’s gear to work in interconnection fabrics in the UK, in Spain, and in Japan.
In the UK, the London Internet Exchange will use Nokia Deepfield to offer advanced DDoS protection to its members. In October, the Nokia Threat Intelligence Report found that DDoS attacks have grown to over 100 per day within many networks. With all the other new things arising in the security sphere it’s easy to forget about DDoS as a disruptive force, but it’s still out there going strong. LINX says it will be the first IXP in the UK to offer this sort of protection.
In Spain, ESpanix will be using Nokia’s Interconnect routers to boost its connection speeds up to 400G. They’ll also be leveraging Nokia’s Photonic Service Switch to optimize bandwidth across the exchange’s optical transport network. The upgrade will enable ESpanix to meet growing demand from their 180+ connected networks and support expansion into new locations. All of the IXP’s current PoPs have the 400G upgrade operational already.
And in Japan, BBIX will also be using Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router and supporting SR Linux Network Operating System to upgrade its network to 400GE. The gear will help BBIX meet demand as traffic continues to grow exponentially. Deployment will start this year in Japan, where they operate exchanges in Tokyo and Osaka, with other markets to follow. BBIX also has exchanges in Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Thailand as well as nodes in North America and Europe.
