A new data center market, some longhaul fiber, and a bit of managed services M&A.

EdgeConneX is taking its approach to data centers to another major international market: Japan. They are leasing land in the Osaka-Kyoto metro area from Kagoya Asset Management, upon which they expect to have a facility ready for services in 2027. At full buildout, plans call for 140MW of high density capacity that will meet demand from the cloud and AI world.

123NET is adding some new longhaul fiber to its Michigan network. They have invested $11M to build out 83 miles if high density optical fiber between Grand Rapids and Lansing, adding to their recent efforts in western Michigan and overbuilding an existing older fiber route. Construction will begin in early 2025 and take about 2 years to fully complete.

And Motorola Solutions has made an inorganic move to bring some AI in-house. They have entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Texas-based Theatro Labs. Theatro offers a platform for AI and voice-powered communications, which they will incorporate into their portfolio.
