Two new global PoPs, a subsea expansion, and a new IX collaboration:
RETN has extended its footprint down into Greece for the first time. The Pan-Eurasian network operator has launched a point of presence in the Balkan Gate Data Centre in Thessaloniki. The new PoP is connected back through RETN’s presence in Sofia, Bulgaria and will hook up to subsea cable infrastructure in the Mediterranean. RETN worked with LANCOM on the expansion.
Sparkle has added a PoP of its own, expanding its footprint in South America. The new point of presence is in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia, located at the ELEA BSB2 data center. It is Sparkle’s 15th PoP in Brazil, and hooks back to the rest of their global footprint via multiple subsea cables in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Caribbean.
MainOne has added to its infrastructure. The West-African infrastructure provider has added the Equiano cable system to its portfolio, incorporating capacity on the new cable system in parallel to its existing subsea capabilities. MainOne is owned by Equinix, and interconnects data centers throughout the region.
And DE-CIX is teaming up with e& for interconnection in the Middle East. The two will be collaborating to expand SmartHub IX, leveraging DE-CIX’s platform to power the service and adding new nodes in Dubai. SmartHub IX is centered on Fujairah in the UAE, and complement’s DE-CIX’s existing efforts at UAE-IX as well as its presence over in India.
