Multiple network expansion projects from around the world to catch up with:
MOX Networks has added a significant new transpacific component to its infrastructure business. They have joined the Topaz subsea cable system, acquiring a chunk of spectrum from Google. The Topaz cable connects Vancouver with the Japanese prefectures of Mie and Ibaraki with 16 fiber pairs, and uses software-defined spectrum slicing. Mox’s network now spans 16,000km.
Lightpath says its AI-related infrastructure pipeline has $1B in it. In 2024 the company booked $110M of AI-driven infrastructure sales to hyperscalers. That’s a pretty good indication that AI is starting to dominate not just colo expansion plans, but network investments as well. Lightpath operates a dense NYC metro area footprint alongside expansion projects in Boston and Miami.
Megaport is expanding its platform into two nLighten facilities over in Europe. They will be operating new PoPs in nLighten facilities in Milton Keynes in the UK and Sophia Antipolis in France. Tenants in each of the edge facilities will have access to cloud on-ramps, enabling them to easily migrate workloads to and from the cloud.
And Globalinx is investing in new cable landing infrastructure in Virginia Beach. They have begun construction of 4 horizontally directional drilled marine bore pipes into two manholes at Sandbridge Beach. The result will be 6 miles of fronthaul conduit connecting to its 11-acre campus by the end of the quarter. That will give them room for four new subsea cables.
