Three industry leaders teamed up for some big bandwidth between continents. Nokia, Windstream Wholesale, and Colt Technology Services recently put the latest technology to work in an 800GbE trial between continents.
The trial leveraged Nokia’s 6th generation PSE-6 coherent optics and 7750SR routing platform across subsea and terrestrial fiber from Colt and Windstream’s terrestrial fiber and ICON network infrastructure. The end result was an 800 Gigabit Ethernet connection from London to Chicago, an 8500km span.
The steady drumbeat of next generation technology trials is ever-present, of course. But 800GbE links of this type are a logical progression, and these three companies will be looking to commercialize this trial in short order I am sure.
