Int’l Bytes: Vodafone, Google, Nokia, NTT DATA, Ciena, Sify, EdgeConneX

Four bits of teamwork from around the world putting next generation infrastructure to work:

Vodafone and Google have signed a 10 year strategic partnership. Vodafone is looking to use Google’s AI capabilities to boost its 5G and TV portfolio. A range of potential services are under consideration, from AI assistance to security and additional storage, both for enterprises and consumers.

Nokia and NTT DATA have expanded their global Private 5G partnership down to the US/Mexico border. The two are collaborating on a new RAN deployment for the city of Brownsville, Texas. Nokia is supplying the 5G radio access, while NTT’s P5G NaaS platform will handle the network operations. Teh deployment will advance Brownsville’s smart city plans.

Ciena picked up a substantial optical deal over in India. Sify Technologies will be upgrading its national long distance network to 600G, starting with the Mumbai to New Delhi route. Both Ciena’s 6500 RLS and Waveserver 5 will be involved, as well as consulting services. Sify is developing AI-ready data center hubs in multiple markets across India.

And last week EdgeConneX made a significant move into the data center market of East Asia. They have formed a JV with Aboitiz InfraCapital to develop and operate data centers in the Philippines. Aboitiz brings land and local expertise to the table, while EdgeConneX will of course handle the colo and operations side of things. The first two facilities will be, unsurprisingly, in the Manila metro area.
