Int’l Bytes: EXA, HGC, VITRO, RETN, AMS-IX, GTT

Four bits of expansion news from Europe and Asia to keep up with:

EXA Infrastructure has added a new Managed Fibre Network capability to its portfolio. They are looking to take their dark fiber infrastructure to new customers with a turn-key solution that includes the rollout and maintenance of the technology necessary to light and operate it. The capability is available in 29 European markets plus the USA and Canada.

HGC has teamed up with PLDT Group’s VITRO Inc. to expand its footprint in southeast Asia. HGC will join the VITRO Partner Network, expanding its footprint to VITRO Sta. Rosa and potentially reaching more customers in the country. Meanwhile VITRO will see an enhancement of its interconnection options across the region via HGC’s infrastructure.

RETN says it has become the first AMS-IX reseller for 400G port connectivity. 400G wavelengths have been steadily making the shift from trials and demos to production in earnest around the world. RETN rolled out 400Gbps waves on its pan-European network last year, and giant IXs like AMS-IX have been preparing for it for a while of course.

And GTT recently added a new PoP in southwestern Europe to its EnvisionCORE network. They have expanded into Lisbon, Portugal, from which they will be able to take advantages of alternate routes to both Africa and Latin America. Recent investments in subsea and terrestrial fiber infrastructure in Portugal have really taken off over the last 5 years.
