Four connectivity expansions and upgrades to catch up with:

AT&T has tapped Nokia for a 5-year agreement for its next-gen fiber access technology. They will be using Nokia’s Lightspan MF and Altiplano platforms, which will enable an upgrade of their access network, which currently reaches some 27.8M fiber locations. Nokia’s gear will support PON tech across a range of 10/25/50/100G.

GlobalNet has added some more depth in Europe. The Netherlands-based internet backbone has expanded its footprint with a new Point of Presence in the Swiss city of Zurich. More specifically, they have hooked up Equinix ZH4, connecting it with Equinix FR5 in Frankfurt via a ROADM node in Stuttgart. Globalnet also suggested that expansion in central Europe may be on the drawing board, although no further details were offered.

Also in central Europe, Speed Connect Austria has tapped Slovenia-based Kontron to help connect the wine-growing regions of Lower Austria, the state that surrounds the capital of Vienna. Kontron has been providing OLTs and ONTs to the project, which has brought 10G connectivity to the mostly rural region. The Zellendorf district in the country’s far northeast was specifically mentioned as a beneficiary of the buildout.

And NetIX has added three more European Internet Exchange Points to its network. The division of Neterra Group has connected with Giganet in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and 1-IX in both Frankfurt, Germany and Kyiv, Ukraine. The move parallels their recent expansions in Brazil puts them in some 45 IXPs globally.
