FTTx Roundup: Consolidated, Vexus, Fibrus, Broadway

August 27th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

Four developments in last mile fiber across four different geographies:

Consolidated Communications has expanded its FTTx footprint within Wilton, Maine. Their Fidium Fiber network is now available to 4,200 homes in the region, giving them 270K homes passed in the state of Maine. Consolidated will also be targeting Madawaska, Dexter, Guilford, Fairfield, Oakland and Fairfield in the coming quarters.

In the UK, Fibrus says it has raised £100M for the next phase of its buildout. That’s an increase upon the £200m facility they already had in place. Fibrus has infrastructure passing 315K homes in Northern Ireland and in Cumbria, and the additional funds will take them past 500K over the next two years.

Vexus Fiber has reached a milestone in its expansion in Colorado City. They have declared the community, which is located in central Texas not Colorado, a Certified Gigabit City. They have built out 30 miles of fiber in the city thus far, putting them in a majority of households and business locations. Vexus is part of Metronet, which operates in 300 communities across 17 states.

And Broadway Broadband has lined up a new partner to support its expansion in central Indiana. They will be collaborating with OCM Engineering for design, implementation, permits, and project management. Broadway Broadband is the fiber arm of Miami-Cass REMC, an electric utility serving Miami, Cass, Carroll, and White counties. They’ll be targeting opportunities in underserved communities.
