Tuesday Bytes: RETN, Ribbon, Infinera, Nokia

One new NOC and a bunch of vender wins from around the world.

RETN is further adding to its capabilities in the Far East. This week they opened a Network Operations Centre in Hong Kong. The new NOC complements their existing NOC in the Latvian capital of Riga, and will support RETN’s infrastructure throughout China and Southeast Asia. RETN operates multiple terrestrial routes from Europe to Asia in addition to the usual subsea paths.

Ribbon picked up two customer wins over the last few days. In the US, Brightspeed will be using a range of Ribbon’s solutions to help modernize its infrastructure, in particular its routing and its legacy central office setups. Meanwhile, the Philippines-based provider Converge ICT Solutions will be using Ribbon’s Apollo optical solution to expand its fiber network capacity from 800Gbps up to 1.2Tbps per channel. The upgrade will enable them to meet anticipated demand while increasing energy efficiency.

Infinera has picked up an RLEC customer out in Colorado. SECOM, which is the broadband arm of the Southeast Colorado Power Association, will be using Infinera’s XTM Series to upgrade its middle mile networks. World Wide Technology helped facilitate the deployment, which covers a big piece of southeastern Colorado.

Nokia is helping eir with an IP backbone upgrade. The Irish telecommunications provider is moving up to 400/800GE, enabling their backbone to support demand from both fixed and mobile subscribers. The project leverages Nokia’s 7750 Service Router platform, which is powered by Nokia’s FP5 silicon technology.
