Tuesday Bytes: Chief Telecom, DE-CIX, CyrusOne, Nokia, MEO

July 9th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

Some interconnection, some financing, and some 5G:

DE-CIX and Chief Telecom have entered into a strategic partnership. The deal will give Chief Telecom access to DE-CIX’s global ecosystem, and in particular enables it to connect the company’s Singaporean customers to DE-CIX ASEAN. This follows a parallel move to interconnect TPIX with AMS-IX Hong Kong just a couple weeks ago.

CyrusOne has lined up a major war chest for the expansion of its infrastructure. They have closed on $7.9B in the form of a Warehouse Credit Facility, which ads to a $1.8B revolving credit facility they completed in May. That adds up to $9.7B in resources that CyrusOne will be able to tap into to fund development projects, which is quite a bit. However, thus far they haven’t offered many details on what those projects might be.

Nokia has announced a multi-year 5G RAN deal with MEO. The Portugese service provider will leverage Nokia’s 5G AirScale portfolio and other technologies as it modernizes its existing network infrastructure. MEO will also leverage the Global Delivery Center and the R&D center Nokia has built out in Portugal.
