With the US out for a long weekend, here’s a quick rundown on infrastructure news from elsewhere in the world:

The Hungarian service provider 4IG has made an inorganic move to boost its infrastructure. They have acquired PR-Telecom Plc, a regional network operator with some 3,400 route miles of fiber infrastructure in Hungary. The deal adds 55K fixed line subscribers and 250K homes passed to 4iG’s footprint. Financial terms were nit disclosed, but the deal is expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, 4iG was also involved in deal with Telecom Egypt. The two have formed a JV that will build last mile infrastructure in Egypt. Onder the MoU, some $600M will be invested over the next 10 years to build, operate, and commercialize FTTx infrastructure, connecting at least 6M households on a wholesale basis.

Sparkle has expanded its relationship with Mainstreaming for content distribution. Mainstreaming, which leverages Sparkle’s data centers and transport network will now have access to twice as much space within Sparkle’s Metamorfosis I data center in Athens. They use an AI-based technology to optimize their infrastructure and achieve a ‘Carbon Neutral’ certification. 100% of the electricity used at Sparkle’s Athens facility will be from renewable sources.

And according to reports, MTN is looking to build some new data center infrastructure in Nigeria. They will be constructing a 1,500-rack Tier 4 data center in the country. Details are sparse, but MTN is looking to meet growing demand by modernizing its data center infrastructure in the region.
