Wednesday Roundup: Windstream, iBasis, SFR, Connectbase, Orange, Akamai

June 26th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

Some fiber, some voice, some data, and a bit of M&A:

Windstream Wholesale has expanded its Beach Route Dark Fiber Alliance all the way south to Miami. They have brought in South Reach Networks as a new partner, giving them a 360-route-mile fiber segment from Jacksonville down to Miami. That completes a unique path that extends all the way back up to Ashburn, connecting northern Virginia directly with a wide range of subsea cable connectivity options.

iBasis and SFR have renewed their partnership over in France. The new 4-year agreement will see iBasis continue to handle SFR’s international voice traffic. iBasis is part of Tofane Global, while SFR serves some 27M customers across France via both fiber and wireless.

Connectbase has lined up a very large new international partnership. Orange Wholesale has joined their ecosystem, integrating with the Connectbase platform. Orange’s extensive presence across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East will help fill out the ecosystem’s location database in many new geographies.

And Akamai has completed its acquisition of Noname. The deal for $450M was announced in early May, and will bolster Akamai’s ability to secure API traffic across its portfolio. The additional revenues of some $20M in 2024 won’t move the needle much, but it’s a technology and expertise acquisition that will likely show benefits down the line.
