Five interesting projects from around the world to catch up with:
SUBCO’s plans for the SMAP cable system are now a bit bigger. They have upgraded the proposed system from 12 fibre pairs to 16, adding 33% to the total system capacity. SMAP will connect the Australian ports of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, and will now have 100Tbps more between the M and the P plus 120Tbps between the S and the M.
Sparkle is testing out quantum encryption in a more familiar context. Working with Arqit Quantum, they have completed a proof of concept in which an international VPN was protected by the next generation technology, using Symmetric Key Agreement. TIM Group’s Telsy helped facilitate the PoC.
PAIX Data Centers is investing in an upgrade of its presence the capital of Ghana. Their facility in Accra will see an expansion from 250KW up to 1.2MW in response to rapidly increasing demand. Just last week PAIX announced a new project in Djibouti.
The London Internet Exchange is upgrading its internet exchange platform in northern Virginia with the help of Nokia. The upgrade to LINX NoVA leverages new 7220 IXR routers to introduce 400GE connectivity. Participants in the exchange will see reduced latency, greater security, and improved scalability.
And Infinera has picked up some subsea business in southeast Asia last week. Super Sistem wil be using their ICE6 800G coherent solution on the SSBS cable system between Batam and Singapore. Super Sistem is building 4,700km of network to connect Batam, Jakarta, and Manado, touching some 7 landing stations.
