Data center development in northern Virginia is never done. DataBank said this week that it will be building a major new campus a bit further southwest of the DC area than the main clusters of Ashburn.
DataBank has acquired 85 acres of land in Culpeper VA. On that land they plan to build a campus that as currently envisioned would hold three 2-story data centers and add 1.4M gross square feet of space. It would also feature a 300MW on-site substation from Dominion energy that could provide 192MW of critical IT power.
Of course, there’s a lot of work to do yet before that kind of capacity becomes available. But the plans come quickly on the heels of DataBank’s plans for a similar campus on 95 acres in Atlanta. Both projects will leverage the company’s new UDHD design.
