Several expansion projects of note that were announced this week:
LightRiver is helping Douglas Fast Net with a regional network upgrade. DFN is a subsidiary of the Douglas Electric Cooperative, which serves coastal Oregon. LightRiver will be helping them design and deploy a new 7-node optical network that leverages SmartOptics ROADM technology, Arista routers and 400G ZR+ optics.
Telxius says it will extend Tikal to Mexico. When complete, the Tikal subsea cable will connect Boca Raton FL to Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, and is being built in conjunction with América Móvil. Telxius is adding a branch over to Cancun on its own, with Alcatel Submarine Networks handling the construction. The cable’s RFS date is expected to be mid-2026.
And Hurricane Electric has expanded its network reach down in Florida. They have built out a new PoP at CoreSite’s 120,000-square-foot OR1 facility in Orlando. It’s HE’s seventh PoP in Florida, and its first in the interior. The extent of their reach prior to this expansion includes four PoPs in Miami and one each in Jacksonville and Tampa.
