New data centers, an IX upgrade, and some wavelength upgrades and expansions:
Digital Realty is expanding its presence in the Mediterranean with a new market following the acquisition of 22 hectares of land near Rome, Italy. Construction is expected to commence in Q4 on ROM1, a tier 4 facility within 15km of the coast and future subsea cables. While it seems Digital Realty is already everywhere, this will be their first location in Italy, complementing other regional locations in Marseille, Zagreb, and Athens.
LINX has tapped Nokia for a refresh of NoVA, its interconnection platform in northern Virginia. LINX first took aim at the region 10 years ago in the early stages of the broader expansion of European IX platforms to new markets. Nokia became their supplier over in London a couple years ago, and now they are ready to upgrade their technology at NoVA as well. LINX NoVA will be deploying Nokia’s 7220 IXR routers and supporting technology to supply L2 connectivity across its footprint.
Padtec has sold some high capacity gear to the Latin American provider UPIX Networks. UPIX operates a network that now spans 10,000km, reaching not just the key destinations of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro but also Curitiba and Porto Alegre in the south. They will be deploying Padtec’s 800Gbps transponders to support transmission rates at flexible intermediate rates in increments of 50Gbps.
And EXA Infrastructure has sold some significant bandwidth to CDN77. The content delivery provider will be using multiple 400G and 100G waves on EXA’s infrastructure to support its global private backbone. EXA’s European footprint offers them diverse 400G routing across 15 countries, something they will need to handle the next round of traffic growth.
