Several interesting upgrades and deployments of regional interest:
Accelecom has picked up a partner in the education vertical. Bellarmine University will be leveraging a 10Gbps link from Bellarmine’s campus to Flexential’s data center, both of which are in Louisville KY. It’s part of the university’s plan to offer a new minor in Esports and their Esports Center in general. Of course, the rest of the university will also benefit from the infrastructure upgrade.
Arvig has picked up a bit of state funding from Minnesota’s Border-to-Border Broadband program. They’ll be expanding fiber out to 240 ‘unserved structures in Sherburne County along the Mississippi River northwest of Minneapolis. The project targets a residential community near the Travellers Club southeast of the town of Clearwater, and will cost some $450K – with Arvig putting up $180K or so of its own funds.
Verizon has deployed upgrades to the communications infrastructure of two NASCAR race tracks. They have added new Wi-Fi connectivity for both Michigan International Speedway, southwest of Detroit, and Watkins Glen International, in the Finger Lakes region of New York. With gear from Extreme Networks, they will have the new infrastructure in place for fans at each of the venues upcoming race weekends. Verizon has been working with NASCAR across a range of tracks this year.
