Four international items worth keeping up with, mostly from EMEA:

The Medusa cable project is officially underway in the Mediterranean. Alcatel Submarine Networks, Elettra Tlc, Medusa, and Orange said this week that the contract has come into force, which means ASN and Elettra will begin construction of the necessary infrastructure. When complete, it will feature 24 fiber pairs connecting destinations from Portugal to Cyprus and Egypt with branches to key destinations in both southern Europe and northern Africa.

CityFibre has picked up three new government contracts in the UK under the Project Gigabit umbrella. The contracts will provide £318m in funding for FTTH projects across rural Norfolk, Suffolk, and Hampshire, with CityFiber spending £170m of its own resources. If all goes well, 218,000 rural properties will have access to fiber, along with another 283,000 CityFibre will be targeting anyway. The buildouts will commence for all three contracts in January 2024.

EXA Infrastructure has lined up a new partner as it expands its channel ecosystem. Cambridge Management Consulting and its team of telecom experts will help bring EXA’s infrastructure offerings to new markets. Cambridge MC is an international consulting firm that has its roots in the UK college town it is named for.

Colt Technology Services has unveiled a new multicast data service for the financial community. The new multicast data service leverages Amazon’s AWS cloud infrastructure while overcoming the difficulty cloud service providers have had in supporting critical applications. Colt monitors the data at the source, in transit, and within its virtual PoPs.
