With all its new buildouts here in the US, Zayo’s European footprint hasn’t been getting the same level of public love of late. But today it got a little bit more attention, as Zayo has announced the addition of a new 400G-enabled intercity route.
The new route connects Paris and Marsieille, giving Zayo triversity between the two key markets as well as a potential 24Tbps of additional capacity. Details on the new route are sparse so far, but since it also provide connectivity to Bourdeaux we can presume it takes a western path. Potential connectivity to the Amitié cable in Bourdeaux certainly will be a plus alongside the obvious landing station destinations in Marseille.
Digging wasn’t mentioned and the new route will be ready later this quarter, so presumably this expansion is based on a dark fiber IRU of some sort. Along with Zayo’s completion of the Zeus cable system between the UK and the mainland, this project clearly adds necessary depth to Zayo’s infrastructure in preparation for significant traffic growth in the region.
