A few M&A rumors from Europe, a new data center campus in southeast Asia, and some FTTH on the US Gulf Coast:
There are some M&A rumors going on over in western Europe this winter. According to reports, Vodafone has been looking at deals with both Three UK and Iliad. The first would combine the UK businesses of Vodafone and Three UK. And the latter would have done something similar for Vodafone and Iliad’s Italian businesses. Neither conversations has led to anything imminent, but they do indicate something about Vodafone’s approach at the moment.
ETIX Everywhere is making a move in the data center market over in Thailand. They have acquired a 67% interest in the 2.4MW Genesis data center in Bang Chalong, 30km outside of central Bangkok. They have renamed it as ETIX Bangkok #1, and plan to build a campus around it. ETIX expects growth in the Thai data center market from OTT/hyperscale needs to get closer to end users in southeast Asia. They are also looking at opportunities for similar moves in Vietnam and the Philippines.
And back here in the USA, American Broadband is taking on a new market down in Louisiana. Their subsidiary Cameron Communications will be deploying FTTH in the community of Westlake, which sits across the water from the city of Lake Charles. Cameron is working on various FTTH projects across a swath of east Texas and southwestern Louisiana, something American Broadband is working on elsewhere as well.
