Wednesday Roundup: Fujitsu, LightRiver, Aligned, Nautilus, USTC

An optical upgrade, a data center expansion, a convertible note, and an M&A:

Fujitsu and LightRiver have teamed up for a regional network upgrade project. With some help from LightRiver, FastTrack Communications has deployed Fujitsu’s 1FINITY optical platform their footprint, which serves businesses in Colorado and New Mexico. The move enables FastTrack to better address capacity demands via 1FINITY’s modular blades.

Aligned is investing more resources out in Utah. The data center provider has acquired a new site in the Salt Lake metro area upon which it will build a new waterless build-to-scale data center. Aligned just launched SLC-02 in Q1 of this year with SLC-03 under development at its West Jordan campus. SLC-04 is targeted for completion as early as December 2021.

Nautilus is raising some more funds to support its own expansion efforts. The company has closed on a $10M convertible note as part of a broader $50M round led by UIL. Nautilus specializes in water-cooling for data centers, claiming to use 80% less cooling power and to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% while using no potable water.

And the supply chain for infrastructure saw a bit of consolidation this week. USTC Corp has announced the acquisition of Comstar Supply, a national distributor of OSP gear. The deal follows closely on USTC’s deal to purchase Walker and Associates, further expanding USTC’s influence in the sector. USTC was founded in 2017 by CEO Cédric Varasteh and is backed by Carlyle.
