Bluebird Acquires ColoHub

January 6th, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

Bluebird Network made an interesting inorganic move in Iowa this week.  The Missouri-based regional communications infrastructure provider has announced the acquisition of the ColoHub Data Center from Geneseo Communications.

The now former ColoHub data center, which opened in 2013, features some 57,000 square feet of space and 6MW of power, and was once a grocery store.  The facility is located in Bettendorf, Iowa, which is the 4th largest of the ‘Quad Cities’ alongside Davenport in Iowa and Moline and Rock Island in Illinois along the Mississippi River.

The newly acquired data center will serve as an interesting complement to Bluebird’s unique Underground Data Center over in Springfield, Missouri.  It also fits in well with the network business that Bluebird acquired from Uniti a couple years ago in and around Illinois.   For its part, Geneseo will focus on its fiber-based communications business in the region, something they’ve been at since 1895.
